The Chicago History Museum’s Costume Collection has a number of projects which would appeal to MLIS students. The costume collection consists of pieces related to local Chicagoans as well as local Chicago designers. There are over 50,000 objects in the collection. The Costume Collection Manager is seeking GSLIS students for a few projects. Interested?

Seeking a second year archives student to work on material in the costume collection. Previously in the history of this department there was a costume research archives. The intellectual control of this collection has since been lost. In need of a second year archives student to inventory, rehouse if necessary and produce a container list. Ideally the intern would also produce suggestions on how to organize and house the collection better.
Currently looking for a library student willing to build a library database from the ground up. The collections department has a small library used for our internal research. Looking for someone who can catalog the material in access. Material is not circulated; we are looking for a way to locate titles etc. The intern would create a project outline and set the standards for this project.
The costume collection has a cataloging project underway. Interns are taught how to catalog material, handle objects and are exposed to proper terminology. Must have an interest in museum and or special collections, and have prior database experience. The project will start with data migration work to familiarize the intern with terminology and the fields they will be expected to fill, and then will be moved into the collection to catalog material from scratch.
